It took a bit longer than expected for former Manchester City star Yaya Toure to find a club, but he is close to having one now. According to ESPN, the 35-year-old midfielder is close to signing for Olympiacos, most successful Greek club. This would be Toure’s second stint with the club since he already played for the Olympiacos in 2005–2006.

This would be a surprising move, especially since Yaya Toure’s agent Dimitry Seluk previously teased that his client might sign with one of English Premier League clubs. Seluk even tweeted recently that Toure “passed a medical in London” and “is close to signing a new contract.”

Yaya Toure’s contract with Manchester City expired in the summer, and the club decided not to renew it. During his eight years with the club, Toure played 230 games and scored 59 goals while winning eight trophies. He previously also played for Metalurh Donetsk, Monaco, and Barcelona.

Olympiacos would use Toure’s experience and the attributes he brings to the table as the club aims to reclaim the title in domestic league competition. Olympiacos won seven straight Greek Super League titles before finishing third in the 2017-18. They are currently fighting for a spot in UEFA Europa League group stage.
