Veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel has become a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers last week. Keuchel cleared waivers on Wednesday and can now choose where to continue his career.

Keuchel started the 2024 campaign on a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners before being acquired by the Brewers in June. At the time, Milwaukee had an injury-plagued rotation, giving Keuchel an opportunity to make four starts. The 2015 American League Cy Young winner pitched 16.2 innings, posting a 5.42 ERA and 11 strikeouts.

But with the Brewers’ starting rotation coming back to health, Keuchel fell down the pecking order.

“Obviously, Dallas has a great pedigree, and he kept us in a lot of games,” general manager Matt Arnold said of Keuchel. “He did a great job for us. It comes down to the number of players that we have coming back. We have some tough decisions to make.”

Dallas Keuchel made his best performances with the Houston Astros, making two All-Stars and helping the franchise win the 2017 World Series. He left the Astros following the 2018 season and pitched for six different teams since then. Keuchel’s career stats include a 103–92 record, 4.03 ERA, and 1,252 strikeouts.
