Former Chargers’ LB Kyle Emanuel Retires After Four Season in NFL

Former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kyle Emanuel decided to retire from NFL after just four seasons in the pros. Emanuel, who became a free agent in March, announced his decision on social media.

According to the 27-year-old, repeated injuries and health concerns influenced him to walk away from football.  

“There is no one specific reason why I came to this decision, but as I contemplated it this offseason, something told me it was time to walk away,” – Emanuel wrote in his Twitter post. “Although it wasn’t the sole reason, the injuries have started to pile up and I had to take my long-term health into consideration. I have no idea what will come next which is scary and exciting at the same time, but I can’t wait to get started on whatever it is.”

Kyle Emanuel was drafted by in the fifth round of 2015 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Although he often struggled with injuries, he missed only one game in the past four years. Emanuel ended up playing 63 games (32 starts) for the organization and managed 143 tackles, 4.0 sacks, two interceptions, six passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He also played a big role as part of Chargers’ special teams.
