Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery dominated Bundesliga with Bayern Munich for a better part of the last decade, but both of these players were forced to leave the team this summer to make room for new generations. And while Robben decided to call it quits and retire, Ribery took a different approach and continued his career in Italy.

Seria A side Fiorentina announced on Wednesday that Ribery inked a two-year contract with the team. The 36-year-old winger underwent a medical the same day and is expected to join the team’s practices in coming days.

“I am here with my family,” – Ribery told reporters after landing in Florence. “We are doing something all together. I have already spoken to [former Bayern teammate] Luca Toni, who told me this was a great club and a beautiful city.”

With the acquisition of Ribery, Fiorentina continues their summer overhaul in an attempt to regain their place as one of Seria A top teams. The club had a disappointing season in 2018/19 when they barely saved themselves from relegation. Earlier this summer, Fiorentina was bought by American businessman Rocco B. Commisso.

After spending the early part of his career playing in France and Turkey, Franck Ribery joined Bayern Munich in 2007. Ribery established himself as one of the team’s most import players, making 425 appearances in all competitions while scoring 124 goals.

During his time in Germany, Ribery won an impressive number of 23 trophies, including nine Bundesliga titles and one Champions League trophy.
