The Philadelphia Flyers won’t have to worry about scoring goals for the foreseeable future. The franchise announced on Thursday that they signed winger Joel Farabee, the team’s leading goal scorer last season, to a six-year extension.

Farabee currently has one year left on the entry-level contract he signed back in 2019. This means that the Flyers now have him locked through the 2027-28 NHL season. The new deal will see Farabee earning $30 million overall and $5 million on an annual basis.

“For sure I’m happy it’s done, and hopefully everything works out, and I can stay in Philly my whole career. I think that’s something that I would want to do,” said Farabee about his extension.

Joel Farabee, who was the No. 14 pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, made his pro debut with the Flyers during the 2019-20 season. He finished his rookie season with eight goals and 13 assists for a total of 21 points.

His sophomore year in the NHL saw Farabee making a significant leap and taking command of Philly’s offense despite his young age. The 21-year-old star played 55 games in 2020-21 and totaled 38 points with 20 goals and 18 assists. At the end of the season, he received the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy given to the “Flyer who has most improved from the previous season, as voted by his teammates.”
