The Florida Panthers learned about their 2024 Stanley Cup Finals opponent. The Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Sunday night to take Game 6 and win the Western Conference final series.

The Panthers, who won the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers in six games as well, are favored to win it all. The first game between the Panthers and the Oilers is scheduled for Saturday night.

Center Connor McDavid took it upon himself to secure a win for the Oilers and send the franchise to their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance since 2006. McDavid, who is the finalist for this season’s Hart Memorial Trophy, scored the opening goal of the game while assisting Zach Hyman to give Edmonton a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Stars managed to make it 2-1 via Mason Marchment midway through the third quarter but couldn’t complete a comeback.

“There’s been lots of growing pains, for sure, lots of lessons, and obviously, it feels great to be in this position,” McDavid said after the game. “This was always part of the plan, and it feels good to be here today.”

The Edmonton Oilers will be looking for their sixth Stanley Cup win and first since 1989–90. The Florida Panthers, on the other hand, are hoping to win their first-ever Stanley Cup. They made the Stanley Cup Finals twice before, including the last season when they lost to Vegas Golden Knights in five games.
