Indiana Fever’s star guard Caitlin Clark is now officially the best rookie three-point shooter the WNBA has ever seen.
Clark drained a shot beyond the arc in the first quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun, marking her 86th made three-pointer this season. With this, she became the player with the most three-point shots made in her rookie season.
The previous WNBA rookie 3-point record was held by Rhyne Howard, who made 85 three-pointers during the 2022 season.
Clark broke the record in style, sending Sun’s guard DiJonai Carrington running into the paint with a fake and then hitting a step-back shot.
Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA as one of the most hyped-up basketball prospects in recent memory following a spectacular run with Iowa State that saw her break the NCAA scoring record. And so far in her young professional career, Clark showed the hype was justified.
Entering the Sun game, Clark has been averaging 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. She was especially on fire after the Olympics break, upping her points average to 23.5 points.
Clark already owns a number of other WNBA records, including WNBA single-game assists record, most three-pointers in a single game by a rookie with seven, and becoming the first rookie in league history with at least 400 points, 100 rebounds, and 150 assists in a single season.
