FC Barcelona’s shock 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on Friday in the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League was the third consecutive season in which the Catalans have bowed out in the round of 8 in the tournament that they haven’t won since 2015.

This, in combination with the club’s second-place finish in La Liga, breaking their run of two straight seasons as title-winners, appears to have been the last straw when it comes to head coach Quique Setien.

Multiple media reports have indicated that Barcelona is on the verge of announcing their coach’s firing, only eight months after he was hired following Ernesto Valverde’s January dismissal.

The former Las Palmas and Real Betis coach did not find much success at the helm of Barcelona, failing to win a single trophy after going 0 for 3 in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.

Setien’s firing is set to be announced very soon, with the team now looking to bring in a replacement for the head coaching job. Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman and former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettini are two of the names rumored to be in consideration.

Expect an official press conference at some time this week with the news.
