After giving defensive tackle Grady Jarrett a new deal earlier this week, Atlanta Falcons managed to secure services of another key piece of their defense for years to come. Falcons confirmed on Wednesday that they have reached an agreement with Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones, signing him to a four-year extension.

Although the team failed to disclose financial terms of the extension, Jones’ agent Drew Rosenhaus told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport that the deal is worth $57 million. The 24-year-old’s new contract comes with $34 million guaranteed and will keep him with the organization through 2023.

“Deion has quickly proven himself to be a leader both on and off the field, and today’s agreement reflects that,” – said Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff in a statement. “He is an essential part of our emerging defense and we are excited to secure him for years to come.”

Since entering the league as the 52nd overall pick in 2016, Deion Jones established himself as one of the best linebackers in the league when it comes to pass coverage. After two standout years, Jones was limited to only 6 games in 2018, ending the season prematurely due to a foot injury.

Jones’ NFL career stats include 297 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 27 passes defended, eight interceptions and three defensive touchdowns.
