The Los Angeles Galaxy have added another big name to their roster. On Friday, the club officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Douglas Costa from Gremio. Douglas is a well-known name in the soccer world, having previously played with Seria A giants Juventus and Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.

According to Galaxy’s official announcement, Costa will initially arrive in Los Angeles on a six-month loan. After the loan agreement expires, the 31-year-old winger will then permanently join the club as a Designated Player on a deal through the 2023 MLS season.

Costa joined Gremio, the club he started his professional career with, in the summer of 2021. He played 26 games for the Brazil side and scored three goals to go with two assists. This wasn’t enough to help Gremio avoid relegation, which is the main reason why Costa decided to seek a move.

Douglas Costa made a name for himself while playing for the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. In 2015, he moved to Bayern Munich, where he spent two seasons and won two Bundesliga trophies. He left Germany in 2016 to join Juventus, where he further added to his trophy resume by winning three Seria A titles.

“Douglas is a world-class player and a proven champion at the highest level. His capacity to create and finish will add yet another level to our attack,” said LA Galaxy’s head coach Greg Vanney in a statement. “We are excited to integrate him into the team as we push toward the start of the season.”
