Veteran running back Kenyan Drake has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 30. Drake spent most of his eight seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals.

Drake shared the news in a statement released via Instagram.

“Hard to believe 8 seasons have come and gone. I’ve loved the journey – the wins, the moments big and small, the comradery, the energy, all of it,” Drake wrote alongside a compilation of photos from his time in the NFL. “Ready to enjoy a little retirement and see where the next chapter takes me. Thanks to everyone that was along for the ride with me – wouldn’t change a thing.”

Drake entered the league as a third-round selection in 2016 by the Dolphins. He spent three and a half seasons in Miami, playing mostly as a No. 2 back, before being traded to the Arizona Cardinals at the trade deadline of the 2019 season.

While with the Cardinals, Drake played the best football of his career. In the remaining eight games of the 2019 season, the former Alabama product rushed for 643 yards and eight touchdowns. He followed that up with a career-high 955 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs in 2020.

After a career year, Drake left the Cardinals in free agency and embarked on stints with the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and Green Bay Packers. He split the last season between the Ravens and Packers, making just three appearances combined.
