Hue Jackson reportedly emerged as a candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ new offensive coordinator. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Steelers had an official interview with Jackson earlier this week.

Jackson is best known for being the head coach of the Steelers’ divisional rivals, the Cleveland Browns, but also has a long history of OC roles in both college football and the NFL.

The Steelers are eager to find a new voice for their offense after unconvincing performances in 2020 under Randy Fichtner. The team did start the season 11-0 but unraveled later on and lost four of their final five games. They also suffered a shocking playoff exit in the wild-card round against the Browns.

Besides Jackson, Pittsburgh is reportedly considering several other names for the offensive coordinator position, including their quarterbacks coach Matt Canada.

Hue Jackson’s biggest success as coordinator came with the Raiders in 2010 when his offense was sixth in points scored in NFL. He also had the seventh-ranked offense in points in 2015 with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jackson was less successful as a head coach, however. In two and a half years with the Cleveland Browns, he had a 3-36-1 record. This included a 1-15 season in 2016 and a winless season in 2017.
