After not being offered a contract by Bayern Munich last week, veteran German defender Jerome Boateng is plotting his next move. According to a recent report by ESPN, that move could include playing in Major League Soccer.

Boateng has been a free agent since the summer when his contract with Ligue 1 side Lyon expired. He recently had a workout for Bayern, but the club decided against bringing him back for a second stint. However, the 35-year-old player is allowed to train at the club in order to maintain his fitness.

Reportedly, Boateng was determined to continue his career in Europe, but the lack of offers is making him reconsider his stance. He recently rejected offers from Saudi Arabia and is now attracted by the prospect of playing in North America.

There has been a longstanding interest in Boateng from MLS teams, who tried to sign him when he left Bayern to go to Lyon. It is believed that these teams would still like to see Boateng in their jersey, considering his success and leadership.

Boateng spent 10 years at Bayern, helping the club win nine Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions Leagues. He also played for Hertha BSC, Hamburger SV, and Manchester City.

Boateng was a staple of Germany’s national team for a long time as well, making 76 appearances between 2009 and 2018. He helped Germany reach third place at the 2010 World Cup and win the tournament in 2014.
