ESPN’s legendary NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, known for breaking exclusive news from the National Basketball League, is retiring from his role with the sports media giant. Wojnarowski announced on Wednesday that he will leave ESPN to become a general manager for the men’s basketball program at St. Bonaventure, his alma mater.

Wojnarowski shared the news via a statement posted on his X (former Twitter) profile.

“I understand the commitment required in my role and it’s an investment I’m no longer driven to make. Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are personally meaningful, “Wojnarowski explained his decision.

Wojnarowski grew in prominence after starting to work for Yahoo! Sports in 2007. He became known for his opinionated pieces as well as bringing sports fans the latest “scoops” from the NBA, including contract extensions, coach hirings, and draft picks, on social media before they become official.

In 2017, Wojnarowski joined ESPN, and the move made him an even more familiar face to regular sports fans. Aside from continuing to break exclusive news, he also made regular appearances on ESPN’s shows.  His importance to the network was reflected in a contract that paid him around $7 million annually.

Now, Wojnarowski will be tasked to use his connections to help improve St. Bonaventure’s basketball program. The Bonnies finished the 2023-24 season with a 20-13 record and seventh place in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
