Premier League powerhouse Manchester United will keep Erik Ten Hag as their manager for the 2024-25 season, according to multiple reports.
Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford was in doubt following a disappointing season in the Premier League that saw them finish eighth. The club also finished at the bottom of their UEFA Champions League group, with the only positive in their campaign being an FA Cup trophy win.
Reportedly, the new leaders of Man United’s sports department, minority owners INEOS, engaged in an extensive review of Ten Hag’s performance at the end of 2023-24. They discussed several options for the managerial position and explored other candidates like ex-Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel and former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi before circling back to ten Hag.
Now, Ten Hag is not only expected to stay with the club but will also receive a contract extension. The two sides are currently engaged in talks about a new deal, as his current one is expiring in 2025. ESPN reports that as part of the new terms, ten Hag will have less say in player recruitment and will be asked to focus on coaching the team he is provided.
Erik ten Hag was hired as Manchester United’s manager in the summer of 2022. In his first season, he finished third in the standings while also winning the Carabao Cup. During his 114 games in charge with Man United, he recorded 66 wins, 17 draws and 31 losses.
