San Jose Earthquakes have just added a talented Mexican winger Carlos Fierro to their roster. The team announced on Tuesday that they have acquired Fierro from Liga MX side Cruz Azul for an undisclosed fee. Quakes used Targeted Allocation Money to finalize the transfer.

This move sees Fierro reuniting with San Jose’s manager Matias Almeyda. The duo spent three years in Guadalajara together, winning Copa MX and the Clausura Liga MX trophy during that time.

Fierro will be eligible to make his debut on July 12, when Earthquakes face LA Galaxy.

“I know Carlos from my time at Chivas,” – said Almeyda in a statement. “I know him as a person and as a professional. I know he can help us a lot with his style of play. He’s a player that I can use in various positions. I thank the club and the effort they made to be able to buy him. Hopefully he does a great job, which is what everyone hopes for.”

Carlos Fierro started his professional career with the Guadalajara, where he spent eight years, playing 153 matches and scoring 11 times. He joined Cruz Azul in 2018 but spent the majority of the season on loan at Morelia.

“We are excited to welcome Carlos to the team as we prepare to take on the second half of the season,” –  said San Jose’s general manager Jesse Fioranelli. “We felt strongly about reinforcing the squad with a player of his skill, work rate and versatility in attacking positions.”
