After Jordan Hicks decided to sign with the Arizona Cardinals in March, Philadelphia Eagles found themselves in a need for a linebacker. Still, they choose not to address the position in 2019 NFL Draft but turned to free agent market and now have signed former Washington Redskins’ LB Zach Brown.

The team confirmed the news on Friday, announcing that Brown inked a one-year deal. Although Philly didn’t disclose the financial terms, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero the contract is worth up to $3 million.

It was a bit odd that Brown was without the team for so long as he was considered to be among the top 30 available free agents in 2019. The 29-year-old is considered to be a versatile player and comes off a solid 2018 season in which he had 96 tackles, 1.0 sacks, and one pass deflection.

Zach Brown was drafted in the second round of 2012 draft by Tennessee Titans, with whom he spent four seasons before signing with Buffalo Bulls in 2016. His lone year in Buffalo provided him with a breakthrough season in which he had 149 tackles, 4.0 sacks four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one interception while also earning Pro Bowl appearances. Brown then signed a deal with Washington Redskins with whom he spent the last two seasons.

Brown’s career stats include 632 tackles, 17.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 20 passes defensed and 32 quarterback hits.
