Eagles Release Veteran LB Zach Brown

Philadelphia Eagles have made a particularly interesting roster move just one day after suffering a 38-20 defeat to Minnesota Vikings. The team announced on Monday that they have released veteran linebacker, Zach Brown.

Brown took the headlines ahead of the Vikings’ game when he called out their struggling quarterback Kirk Cousins and labeled him as “the weakest part of the offense.” Cousins responded with a monster game in which he threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

While Eagles insist their move was motivated by Brown’s poor performances, Philly’s decision to cut a LB, when the team already lacks linebacker depth, is pretty unexpected.

Zach Brown joined the Eagles in March, signing a $1.5 million deal for this season. Brown started all six games for Philadelphia in 2016, playing 68.4 percent of the team’s defensive snaps and contributing with 29 tackles and two passes defended.

Although Philly said goodbye to Brown, there is no doubt that he won’t need much time to land a new job, with several NFL teams already contacting him.

Prior to signing with Eagles, Brown, who was a second-round pick in 2012, also played with Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Redskins. He made one Pro Bowl appearance in 2016.
