The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Saturday that they’ve released veteran cornerback Greedy Williams. The team also made several other moves, including waiving corner Zech McPhearson and wideout Tyrie Cleveland.

Williams signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract with $600K in guarantees with the Eagles back in March. He was expected to take one of the backup corner spots, but a lukewarm performance during the training camp and in the preseason cost him a roster spot.

Williams spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of LSU. The 25-year-old player has 99 tackles, 12 passes defended, and two interceptions as a pro. He missed the entire 2020 season due to a shoulder injury.

With Williams and McPhearson off the roster, the Eagles will likely turn to Josh Jobe for meaningful snaps at the cornerback position. Jobe signed with Philly as an undrafted free agent last season and played in 11 games. He had enjoyed an impressive training camp so far and likely positioned himself for a more meaningful role.

The 2020’s fourth-round pick Josiah Scott and last year’s practice squad player Mario Goodrich are also expected to receive consideration for the 53-man roster.
