The Philadelphia Eagles’ 0-2-1 start to the season had many worried about their chances of qualifying for the playoffs, and after receiving the news that a key offensive player has suffered a fractured left ankle, those worries are getting even stronger.

Tight end Dallas Goedert, who recorded a total of 12 receptions and 131 receiving yards along with a touchdown in the first two weeks of the season, was injured in the team’s Sunday tie against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The team revealed on Tuesday that Goedert had suffered a left ankle fracture which will keep him out for at least the next several weeks.

Goedert, who burst onto the scene for Philadelphia last season in his sophomore season by recording 58 receptions for 607 yards and 5 receiving touchdowns, was expected to be a top target for quarterback Carson Wentz heading into the season.

Goedert’s absence is a tough pill to swallow for a Philadelphia offense which has struggled to move the ball through the air in the season’s first 3 games. Wentz has thrown for just 737 yards, recording 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

The team did not immediately announce a timetable for Goedert’s return. Along with Zach Ertz, Richard Rodgers is expected to shoulder the load at the position until he is back on the field.
