EA Sports decided to take an unexpected route in selecting a cover athlete for their highly popular NHL video game franchises. The new entry in the series, NHL 25, will feature brothers Jack, Luke, and Quinn Hughes as cover athletes.

This marks the first time that the cover of the NHL video game features brothers and the first time since NHLPA Hockey ’93, published in 1992, that there are three athletes on the cover. Additionally, it is believed that no sports game franchise has ever featured a family on its cover before.

Jack Hughes is a center and alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils. He is a three-time All-Star, receiving the nod in each of the past three seasons, and coming off a season in which he contributed with 74 points (27 goals and 47 assists) in 62 games.

Luke Hughes is a defenseman and plays alongside Jack with the Devils. He played his first full NHL season in 2023-24, appearing in all 82 games and finishing the campaign with nine goals and 38 assists for a total of 47 points. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the campaign.

Quinn Hughes, who is the oldest of the three, is a defenseman and captain for the Vancouver Canucks. He had 17 goals and 75 assists last season and was awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy, given to the best defensive player in the league.

“I think all of us are just honored because it’s a hard thing to be on the cover, and there’s so many great players in the league,” said Quinn Hugh. “For them to decide to attach their brand with the three of us was pretty cool.”

EA Sports’ NHL 25 will be released on October 4 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
