The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their free agency spending spree over the weekend by signing All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Hernandez signed a one-year deal that will pay him $23.5 million in 2024.

It includes $8 million in deferred money that will be paid out from 2030 to 2039.

Hernandez spent 2023 with the Seattle Mariners, batting .258 with 26 home runs and 93 RBIs in 160 games. His best season came in 2021 as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, when he was selected to the All-MLB Second Team, earned an All-Star nod, and won a Silver Slugger Award.

Reportedly, Hernandez had several offers from other teams this offseason and had an opportunity to land a multi-year deal. However, he picked the Dodgers, who offered the most money on an annual basis and an opportunity to compete for a World Series title.

The Dodgers were amongst the most active teams in the offseason, adding several high-profile names to a roster that won 100 games in 2023. The LA team signed two of the best players on the free agent market, two-time NL MVP Shohei Ohtani and prized Nippon Professional Baseball pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while also adding left-hand pitcher Tyler Glasnow in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
