Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell won’t play again for the San Francisco 49ers, according to the team’s head coach, Kyle Shanahan. This comes after Campbell refused to enter the Thursday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Campbell was called upon in the third quarter of the Rams game after Dre Greenlaw went out due to a sore knee. However, likely upset about losing his starting place, Campbell didn’t want to go in and later headed to the locker room.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Shanahan said that the 49ers are considering their next step when it comes to Campbell, with whom the organization hasn’t had any contact since the game. He also added that Campbell’s action isn’t “not something you can do and still be a part of our team.”

De’Vondre Campbell signed with the 49ers on a one-year, $5 million contract ahead of the 2024 season. He started 12 out of the first 13 games, but his playing time has diminished in recent weeks. He was then demoted to a backup role to make room for Greenlaw, who was playing his first game since recovering from an Achilles injury.

Campbell contributed with 79 tackles and two pass deflections this season. He previously played with the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Green Bay Packers, making the First-team All-Pro in 2021.
