As expected, it didn’t take long for NBA teams to start sending job offers to former Toronto Raptors’ coach Dwane Casey. It was reported by ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski that Casey has emerged as the top target for the head coaching job with Detroit Pistons, who are looking to replace recently fired Stan Van Gundy.

Dwane Casey spent seven years with the Toronto Raptors and led the team to top seed in the Eastern Conference, with a franchise record of 59 wins. Still, that didn’t help Casey to save his job since the Raptors got swept by the Cleveland Cavalier in the semi-finals of Eastern Conference playoffs.

Besides hiring a head coach, Detroit Pistons are also looking to reshape most of their front office after a disappointing end of the 2017-18 season in which they narrowly missed the playoffs. This is why the team has recently hired former Memphis Grizzlies executive Ed Stefanski as a senior advisor. Stefanski will evaluate Piston’s current front office and overlook the process of hiring a general manager and coach.

I’m going to Detroit to meet with all the employees, and I am going to listen to all their thoughts and visions,” – Stefanski told ESPN following the announcement. “And then I am going to give advice to our owner, Tom Gores, on how we are going to structure things going forward. The big thing right now, though, is that we need a head coach and a GM. Those will be two items that we will probably do simultaneously.

With Stefanski, Pistons will have a slight advantage in hiring Dwane Casey, since he was part of the Toronto Raptors front office who hired Casey back in 2011.
