DeMar DeRozan, arguably the best remaining player on the NBA’s free agent market, is reportedly meeting with the Sacramento Kings to hear the franchise’s recruiting pitch.
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, the meeting between DeRozan and the Kings’ brass is expected to take place this weekend.
DeRozan spent the past three seasons with the Bulls and earned All-Star nods in two of those three seasons before hitting the free agency. He played 79 games in 2023-24, averaging 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.
DeRozan is taking longer than usual to pick out his next destination, but it isn’t due to a lack of interest. Several teams have been aggressively pursuing the six-time All-Star forward, although the Kings emerged as the favorite to land his signature.
The Kings would prefer to add DeRozan via sign-and-trade, something that the Bulls are interested in doing. However, the Bulls are looking to shed some salary in the process and want another team included in the trade to make it possible. The San Antonio Spurs are mentioned as candidates in this scenario.
DeRozan is also interested in playing for the Kings and has already spoken with several members of the organization, including head coach Mike Brown and shooting guard Malik Monk.
