The Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis marked his return from injury by scoring 21 points off the bench in his team’s 113-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. This is the first time in a decade that the power forward has come off the bench.

“It was definitely new for me since I’ve been playing,” the Lakers star commented following the win. “I told them, I said the last time I came off the bench was the 2012 Olympics.”

Davis had missed five-and-a-half weeks of playing time as he was busy recovering from a fractured bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot. He was only tipped to play in the Spurs game after completing the pre-game warmup about two hours before tipoff.

After delivering an impressive performance that coach Darvin Ham expressed his satisfaction with, Davis is expected to receive more minutes going forward, with the possibility of starting the Lakers’ game against the Boston Celtics on Saturday.

Currently sitting in 13th place in the Western Conference standings, the Lakers have been struggling to find form without Davis, going 10-10 in his absence.
