Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has suffered a torn ACL in the game against Detroit Lions and will be out for the remainder of the season since he will have to undergo a surgery. This was confirmed by the Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer on Monday.

He does have a torn ACL, and we’ll move forward from there,” Zimmer said to the reporters on Monday. “He’s a great kid, [I’m] extremely impressed with everything he’s done to this point. It’s obviously a terrible thing for him and us. We’ll move forward and go from there. He’s a great worker, and I have no doubt that he’ll come back.

Dalvin Cook played college football at Florida State, before forgoing his senior season and entering the 2017 NFL Draft. During his college career, Cook had 4,464 rushing yards and 935 receiving yards alongside 48 combined touchdowns. Many analysts considered Cook to be one of the top running backs in the class, but his problematic off-court behavior caused his draft stock to drop. Before the draft, he was projected to be selected in the late first or second round. Minnesota Vikings ended up taking Cook in the second round with the 41st pick overall. Vikings acquired the pick from Cinncinati Bengals in exchange for 48th and 128th picks. Before the game with the Lions, Cook had 288 rushing yards and was on the pace to top 400 yards rushing through the season’s first 4 games of the season.

With Cook being out for the rest of the season, Vikings will look for Latavius Murray to do the job. Murray, who signed a $15 million, 3-year contract in March, previously underwent ankle surgery that kept him out for several months. Zimmer also didn’t rule out signing another running back saying that is a possibility and that the team is “looking at everything now”.
