It took a long for Peter DeBoer to find a new job after being fired by the Vegas Golden Knights at the end of the season. According to multiple reports, DeBoer is in discussion with the Dallas Stars and is expected to become the new head coach for the franchise in the coming days.

NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Stars are willing to offer DeBoer a four-year deal that would earn him more than $4 million annually. LeBrun adds that nothing is signed as of now but that the major details of the agreement are all worked out.

The Stars have been looking for a new head coach since Rick Bowness stepped away from the position following first-round elimination in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bowness spent three seasons in Dallas and coached the team to an 89-62-25 record that included Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2019-20. He decided to leave the franchise after his contract expired.

Peter DeBoer would bring a wealth of experience to the Stars and potentially help the team maximize their championship window. Before missing the playoffs in 2021-22, he led the Golden Knights to Conference finals and Stanley Cup semifinals in consecutive seasons. DeBoer also has one Stanley Cup Finals appearance from 2015-16 with the San Jose Sharks.
