D.C. United will be without U.S. international winger Paul Arriola for the entire 2020 MLS season. The team announced on Monday that Arriola underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and that he will spend at least nine months rehabbing.

Arriola suffered the injury two weeks ago in a preseason match against Orlando City. He was forced to leave the contest in the 30th minute with what was initially described as a potentially serious knee injury. It was later confirmed that the 25-year-old actually tore his ACL.

Following the operation, Arriola went on social media to give an update to his followers and confirm that the procedure went well.

Paul Arriola joined D.C. United in 2017 from Liga MX side Tijuana and immediately became one of the team’s core players. Arriola played a total of 68 games in MLS during the past two and a half seasons and managed to score 14 goals alongside 12 assists.

Arriola is also a regular member of USMNT, having played 33 games for the national side since 2016. He scored five goals.
