Even at 39, the Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo continues to put up impressive numbers and performances. Ronaldo scored two goals in Al Nassr’s 4-2 win over Al Ittihad on Monday and now has 35 goals in 31 games played this season.
A couple of goals allowed Ronaldo to take ownership of the record for most goals scored in a single season in the history of the Saudi Pro League. The previous record-holder was Abderrazak Hamdallah, who scored 34 goals in 2018-19 while also playing for Al Nassr.
Al Nassr celebrated Ronaldo’s achievement on social media while pointing out that he is the only player ever to be the top scorer in four different countries. Ronaldo previously topped the goalscoring charts in England, Spain, and Italy.
Ronaldo scored his first goal of the game in the dying seconds of the first half. Mohammed Al-Fatil sent a long pass that Ronaldo masterfully tamed with his chest and then guided the ball to the net to give his team a 1-0 lead.
His second goal came in the 70th minute when he scored a header following Marcelo Brozovic’s corner kick. With the record in the bag, Ronaldo was substituted several minutes later.
Playing his first full season in Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo showed that he could still perform at a high level. Aside from 35 goals and 11 assists in the Saudi Pro League, he also added nine goals in other competitions. Still, he is yet to win a major trophy with his new club, as Al Nassr finished second in the domestic league while also being eliminated in the King Cup of Champions and AFC Champions League.
