Columbus Crew has decided to use their third and final designated player spot on forward Gyasi Zardes. Crew announced on Wednesday that they had signed Zardes to a multi-year contract, awarding him for his fine form in the last two seasons.

“We’re thrilled that Gyasi has agreed to be a part of this team for the foreseeable future, as it shows his commitment to our club and to our community,” – Crew SC president Tim Bezbatchenko said in a club statement. “Gyasi is a player who truly understands the culture of the Columbus Crew and whose work ethic is second to none.”

Gyasi Zardes joined Crew in 2018 from LA Galaxy in a trade that included Ola Kamara heading in the opposite direction. In his first season with Columbus, he managed to score 20 goals in 36 matches which earned him Major League Soccer’s Comeback Player of the Year award. This season he is also playing on an exceptional level, scoring four goals and providing one assist in 10 games.

“As far as this team, they’ve welcomed me with open arms since the moment I got here and I’m thankful for that.” – Zardes told Crew’s official website after inking the deal.

Prior to his arrival in Columbus, Zardes played a total of 131 games during five years with LA Galaxy and managed to score 34 goals.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
