The Dallas Cowboys dipped in the free agent market in attempts to replace injured linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. According to Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are set to sign veteran LB Rashaan Evans to their practice squad.

Gehlken reported that Evans had a workout with the Cowboys on Wednesday and only needs to pass his physical for the move to be official.

Vander Esch got hurt in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was placed on Injured Reserve with a neck injury designation. The 27-year-old player will miss at least four weeks as a result, but the Cowboys are reportedly optimistic that they will have him back on the field this season.

Rashaan Evans was a starter with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, playing all 17 games. He contributed with a career-high 159 tackles to go with 2.0 sacks and four pass deflections. However, the Falcons opted against keeping him, and he spent the start of the 2023 season on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.

Evans was a first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans back in 2018. In his five years as a pro, the Alabama product has 476 tackles. 5.0 sacks, 12 pass deflections, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
