The Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 win over the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football appears to have come at a great cost. Cowboys star defenders Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence both suffered injuries against the Giants and are expected to miss some time while recovering.
Parsons, who was a favorite for Defensive Player of the Year ahead of the season, went down with a high ankle sprain during the fourth quarter. He is expected to miss the Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at least, although a longer absence isn’t excluded.
Lawrence, a four-time Pro Bowler, suffered a foot injury in the third quarter. The injury is believed to be more serious, and he will likely miss multiple weeks before returning to action.
Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the injuries of Parsons and Lawrence in a chat with reporters on Friday but didn’t go into specifics.
“D-Law’s is worse than Micah’s,” McCarthy said. “I don’t have a specific timeline but we’ll get into that probably a little deeper Monday, but I do know there will be second opinions involved with both of these guys. They are worse than we anticipated.”
Missing Parsons and Lawrence for any time period will be a tough blow for the Cowboys, especially considering how poorly their defense has played so far in the season. It also doesn’t help that they are facing currently undefeated Steelers and Super Bowl contenders in Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers in their next three games.
