Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith is expected to be out of action for months after suffering a torn left hamstring during practice on Wednesday. While the exact timeline for his recovery has not yet been confirmed, this injury could severely impact his 2022-23 season. More reviews to confirm the extent of the injury are expected to be carried out on Thursday.

It was during a running play that Smith got injured, going to the ground as he attempted to block linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. Ultimately able to walk off the field of play without assistance, initial tests revealed that Smith’s ACL in his left knee remained intact. Smith was spotted leaving the locker room with a limp after practice, after which he spoke with left guard Connor McGovern.

“He gave me a nice reassuring grunt like he usually does,” McGovern said of their interaction. “That’s the one thing playing next to him for so long, I can decipher his grunts. I think he’s all right.”

With Smith no longer available for the Cowboys’ NFL season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team now faces the task of finding a replacement at left tackle. While Tyler Smith was drafted in the first round by Dallas, he has since been used as a left guard. He is also recovering from an ankle injury that saw him sit out of the last two practices.
