The Dallas Cowboys have been handed a tough blow as they put the finishing touches on their training camp. Their All-Pro corner, DaRon Bland, is dealing with a left foot injury that will keep him out of action for six to eight weeks.
Reportedly, Bland felt discomfort in his left foot after the team’s last practice before the final preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He went through a test that discovered a stress fracture, which will require surgery.
Bland is scheduled to undergo the procedure on Monday. If he recovers as planned, he will likely be ready to return to action in Week 6 or Week 7.
“The good news is he’ll be here for let’s say the vital games of the year,” said Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
While Bland is away, the Cowboys will likely turn to Pro Bowler Trevon Diggs and veteran Jourdan Lewis to take a bigger workload. They also have rookie Caelan Carson and 2022’s second-round pick Andrew Booth at their disposal.
Bland is the second important player that the Cowboys lost during training camp. Defensive end Sam Williams tore his ACL in late July and underwent surgery that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
