The Washington Commanders won’t entertain the idea of trading star wide receiver Terry McLaurin despite a contract standoff. This was confirmed by Commanders’ head coach Ron Rivera in a chat with reporters during mandatory minicamp on Wednesday.

McLaurin opted to skip the minicamp to put some pressure on Washington to give him a new contract. The two sides have been negotiating for a while but don’t seem close to an agreement. The Ohio State product is believed to be looking for something in the line of a four-year, $100 million deal that AJ Brown, another star wideout from the 2019 class, received earlier in the offseason.

Speaking about McLaurin, Rivera said he is confident the 26-year-old will get a new deal soon. This is why trading him is out of the question.

“We’re not trading Terry,” Rivera reiterated. “We believe in who Terry is for us and what he can bring to the table.”

More than one NFL team probably called Washington in recent weeks to enquire about McLaurin’s availability. However, it would be hard to see the Commanders pulling the trigger on a trade regardless of the deal.

McLaurin has been the most reliable offensive weapon for the Commanders and managed to stay productive despite the revolving door at the quarterback position. In three seasons as a pro he caught 222 passes for 3,090 yards and 16 touchdowns.
