The Baltimore Ravens suffered a 29-28 loss to the Washington Commanders in their final preseason game in 2023. The loss marked an end of an impressive preseason streak for the Ravens, during which they won an NFL record 24 consecutive games.

Before Monday night, the last time the Ravens lost a preseason game was in 2015, when they suffered a 20-19 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Commanders played their starting quarterback Sam Howell for the entire first half and rushed to a 17-14 lead at halftime. Howell completed 19 out of 25 pass attempts, throwing for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Baltimore, on the other hand, opted to field a team that mostly consisted of backups but still managed to turn things around in the second half. They held a 28-20 lead early in the fourth quarter before Washington’s third-string QB Jake Fromm orchestrated a 59-yard touchdown drive to make it 28-26 after a failed two-point conversion.

The Ravens punted the ball on the following drive, giving Fromm another chance with less than three minutes left on the clock. The Commanders started at their nine-yard line but advanced for 60 yards to set up a winning field goal for their kicker Joey Slye.

“You’re proud of it, of course,” said Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh after the game. “And you appreciate it. But the thing that you’re proud of is all those games are mostly just like that.
