The Washington Commanders made a big splash ahead of the NFL trade deadline, acquiring Pro Bowl corner Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.

According to Commanders, they will receive Lattimore and next year’s fifth-round selection while sending third, fourth, and sixth-rounder, all in the 2025 NFL Draft, to the Saints in exchange. The trade is expected to become official once Lattimore passes his physical.

The Commanders are one of the biggest success stories of the 2024 NFL season. After missing playoffs for three consecutive seasons and making just one postseason appearance in the last eight, the Commanders currently own a 7-2 record on the back of exceptional play by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and leadership by new head coach Dan Quinn.

Despite their great form, Washington was aware that they needed corner depth if they wanted to make a deep playoff run. With Lattimore in the mix, they not only have that but also get a player who can make a difference against the league’s best wide receivers.

For the Saints, this represents a second big move this week following the firing of head coach Dennis Allen. Despite Lattimore being one of their best players, the franchise prioritized salary cap relief and getting draft assets for their upcoming rebuild.

Marshon Lattimore entered the league as the 11th overall pick in 2017 and went on to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and receive a Pro Bowl nod in his first season in the league. He followed that up with three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons between 2019 and 2021.

However, Lattimore has struggled to remain as impactful since then. A series of injuries have limited his time on the field, and he missed 19 games in 2022 and 2023 combined. He played seven games with the Saints this season while being sidelined for two games due to a hamstring injury and contributed with 30 tackles and two passes defended.
