Despite being 45 years old and entering his 23rd NFL season, Indianapolis Colts placekicker Adam Vinatieri is still not ready to retire. In an interview for Colts official website, Vinatieri talked about his future with the organization and said that he doesn’t intend to walk away from professional football anytime soon.

I love it as much today as I had when I started 23 years ago,” – Vinatieri told Colts.com. “I’m not looking to hang them up anytime soon unless something happens that needs to be that way.”

Although Adam Vinatieri keeps on playing because of his love for the sport, he also won’t mind breaking some NFL records in the process. Vinatieri currently has 559 field goals made in his career, and only needs to make seven more in order to claim NFL record for most career field goals made, currently held by another legendary placekicker Morten Andersen with 565.

I guess I’ll take these one year at a time and see where it ends up,” – Vinatieri added. “I would anticipate if I can stay healthy and be productive, I can anticipate catching up to Morten (Andersen) midseason or thereabout, and I guess at the end of the year I’d be 46.

Adam Vinatieri entered the NFL in 1996, signing a deal with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. After spending 10 years with the Patriots and winning three Super Bowls, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006, winning another Super Bowl in his first year with the franchise. During his time in the league, Vinatieri made three Pro-Bowls and has three First-team All-Pro honors.
