Coco Gauff has emerged as the champion of this year’s China Open, defeating Karolina Muchova 6-1 6-3 in the final. At the age of 20 years, Gauff has become the youngest China Open champion for the past 14 years. She also happens to be the second American champion in the China Open following Serena Williams who won in 2004 and 2013.

“I want to say congratulations to you, Karolina, it’s great to see you back on tour,” Gauff stated after her win, referring to Muchova’s extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a wrist injury at the 2023 US Open. “I would like to thank my team. It’s our first tournament together as a full, complete team,”

The China Open was Gauff’s first tournament after Matt Daly was added to her coaching team. She parted ways with Brad Gilbert in September. By winning the China Open, Gauff is boosting her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals. She will need to be one of the eight top-ranked players on the WTA Rankings to qualify for the season-ending tournament.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
