AC Milan is out of the UEFA Champions League despite claiming a 2-1 win over Newcastle United on the final matchday of the group stage. United States star Christian Pulisic contributed to one of Milan’s goals, becoming the first U.S. international to score for three different clubs in the competition.

The Seria A side finished third in Group F behind Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain and received a spot in the knockout stage of the UEFA Europa League as a consolation prize. Newcastle, on the other hand, finished at the bottom of the group and won’t get to play again in European competitions this season.

Newcastle got the lead through Joelinton in the 33rd minute before Pulisic leveled the score in 59th minute. Samuel Chukwueze completed Milan’s comeback by finding the net in the 84th minute.

“It’s a massive accomplishment,” said Pulisic after the game. “We have a chance to win a great competition. Of course we wanted to continue in the Champions League, but we look forward to competing in the Europa League.”

Pulisic now has eight UCL goals, having previously scored two with Borussia Dortmund and five with Chelsea. No other American has more than four.
