The Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce wasn’t able to put up his usual numbers in the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season. But this slow start doesn’t seem to worry Kelce too much.
Usually the favorite offensive weapon of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kelce managed just eight catches for 69 yards and zero touchdowns throughout Week 3.
“I’ve had a lot of catches in this league, man. I’m not worried about the catches and the yards and all that,” Kelce said while speaking about his struggles during the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “I have the most fun when the ball is thrown my way, who doesn’t? It has everything to do with execution, just making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games, man. That’s always going to be the goal.”
Kelce added that the most important thing for him is that the team is playing “winning” football. The Chiefs are 3-0 to start the season.
Travis Kelce’s low production has fueled the speculations that he is on the decline, with critics pointing out his quiet, at least by his own standards, 2023 campaign. Kelce finished the last season with 92 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns, which was the first time since 2015 that he didn’t eclipse 1,000 yards receiving.
However, Kelce did step up in the postseason, making 32 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns as the Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl.
