The Kansas City Chiefs addressed their depleted wideout corps on Friday by signing veteran wide receiver Richie James. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, James inked a one-year deal with the franchise.

James arrives in Kansas City after a promising 2022 campaign in which he made 57 receptions for 569 yards and four touchdowns. The financial terms of the deal remain under wraps.

James will add a target for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the Chiefs saw last year’s top duo, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Mecole Hardman, depart in free agency. Smith-Schuster signed with the New England Patriots, while Hardman left to join the New York Jets.

Kansas City also has veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling, former first-round pick Kadarius Toney and second-year player Skyy Moore in the wide receiver position. While the arrival of James probably makes them feel better about the depth of the position, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chiefs ended up adding more offensive weapons in the upcoming draft.

Richie James entered the league as a seventh-round pick in 2018 by the San Francisco 49ers. He mainly served as a kick and punt returner during his time in San Francisco, managing only 38 catches for 689 yards and three TDs.
