The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted quarterbacks coach and senior offensive assistant Matt Nagy to the role of offensive coordinator, thereby replacing Eric Bieniemy. Bienemy departed the team to take a similar position at the Washington Commanders.

This is Nagy’s second tenure with the Chiefs, having worked as the team’s offensive coordinator on Andy Reid’s staff in 2016 and 2017. Prior to his arrival at the Chiefs, Nagy served under Reid for three seasons at the Philadelphia Eagles.

After helping to evolve the Chiefs’ offensive line over two seasons, Nagy departed the team to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. During his time there, the 44-year-old coach went 34-31, notably earning the Bears their first NFC North title in eight years during his debut season in charge, earning him the title of NFL Coach of the Year. Unable to replicate such heights in his subsequent seasons, Nagy was dismissed by the Bears after a 6-11 season in 2021.

Following his stint with the Bears, the Chiefs jumped at the opportunity to bring Nagy back to the team, this time as a quarterbacks coach and senior offensive assistant.
