The season is over for Kansas City Chiefs’ veteran running back Spencer Ware. The Chiefs announced on Wednesday that they have played Ware on the Injured Reserve list as he is dealing with an “ailing shoulder.”

Ware started the season with Indianapolis Colts, but failed to play a single game with the team before being released in September in the aftermath of ankle surgery. The 28-year-old recovered well and was brought in by the Chiefs in December.

In three games he played with Kansas City, Ware had 17 rushing attempts for 51 yards. He also caught five passes for 22 yards.

Chiefs filled the vacant roster spot with defensive tackle Xavier Williams, who was activated off of IR. Williams was out since early October when he suffered a high ankle sprain.

Spencer Ware will join fellow RB Darrel Williams on the IR. Williams recently landed on the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury. Kansas City Chiefs are not down to veterans LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams, and rookie Darwin Thompson at the position. It’s important to note that McCoy hasn’t played the previous two games despite being healthy.
