The Kansas City Chiefs are one step closer to becoming the first team in NFL history with a three-peat after beating the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2024 NLF Playoffs. Meanwhile, their star signal-caller Patrick Mahomes became the first quarterback to have a 7-0 record in the Divisional Round.

It was a closely contested game that saw defenses dominate and offenses struggling to come up with an answer. In the end, a more experienced and tested team got the upper hand and came up with a 23-14 win.

Mahomes finished the game with 177 yards and one touchdown while improving to 16-3 in the playoffs. He now needs just one more win to jump over San Francisco 49ers’ legend Joe Montana for second-most all-time. The first is Tom Brady, who has 35 playoff wins on his resume.

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid reached his 300th career win. Only three coaches in NFL history—George Halas, Bill Belichick, and Don Shula—won more games.

The Chiefs will now wait for the end of the Divisional Round matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills to learn their opponent in the AFC Championship game. They are the fourth team coming off two straight Super Bowl wins to reach the conference championship. All previous three lost and were denied a chance to play for their third consecutive Super Bowl.
