The Chicago White Sox continue to make baseball history with their disastrous 2024 campaign. Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the San Diego Padres marked the 120th loss of the season for the White Sox and tied the modern-era record.

The White Sox now have the same number of losses in a single season as the 1962 New York Mets, which went 40-120. No other team has had more losses since 1900.

Additionally, the White Sox now own the unflattering record of most losses by an American League team. The previous record was held by the Detroit Tigers’ 2003 team with 119 losses.

The White Sox have six games left in the season, and considering the way they are playing, it is almost a guarantee that they will rack up more losses and take sole ownership of the record.

Speaking with reporters after the Padres game, White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore insisted that his team isn’t too bothered by the outside noise and is focusing on using the rest of the season as an opportunity to get an early start on roster construction for 2025.

“No loss is good,” Sizemore told reporters. “Everyone outside of this clubhouse will be more obsessed with it than us. We’re going to put this one behind us and get ready for the next series back home.”
