Chicago Fire has found a way to get their fans excited about the upcoming home game against Inter Miami even if their opponent’s best player, Argentine star Lionel Messi, isn’t able to play. In case of Messi’s absence, the fans who attend the game will be rewarded with credit in the form of complementary tickets and discounts.

Messi suffered a ligament injury while playing for Argentina in the finals of the 2024 Copa América. The injury will sideline him for an extended period of time, and it is unclear whether he will manage to recover in time to play against Fire on August 31.

If Messi is featured against Fire, Chicago soccer fans will be able to enjoy watching one of the best players in the history of soccer. In case he doesn’t make it on the pitch, fans who already purchased the ticket will be entitled to a complimentary ticket for 2024 Fan Appreciation Night, which will feature a game against Nashville SC.

Fans who buy the ticket between now and August 31 and don’t see Messi in action will receive $250 off two or more new 2025 Chicago Fire Season Tickets or $100 off two or more single-match tickets for the home game against Inter Miami during the 2025 MLS season.

“As the Club looks forward to filling Soldier Field with fans to cheer on the hometown Chicago Fire, it does recognize that a player of Inter Miami star forward Lionel Messi’s caliber always helps to draw a larger crowd and attract new fans to the beautiful game,” said Fire in a statement.
