German soccer superstar midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has turned around the Chicago Fire after signing a one-year deal in March 2017. He contributed three goals and six assists in 24 regular season games alongside his veteran leadership skills and helped the Fire reach the third spot in MLS Western Conference while being selected in the MLS All-Star Game.

The team also had the third best record in the entire league with 16-7-11. This came after the Fire finished on the last place of the standings in both 2015 and 2016. Given all this, it is only natural that the Chicago Fire fans are worried whether Schweinsteiger will return after his deal has expired. Well according to general manager Nelson Rodriguez, the team is close to finalizing the deal with the German legend.

We remain optimistic and we think we’re very close to finalizing his return,” – said Rodriguez. “I hope that Basti and his folks don’t see that as an attempt to negotiate publicly. … I’ve learned that until all the documents are signed nothing’s ever truly done, but I believe that he’ll be back.

The player himself recently stated that he wants to keep on playing soccer and confirmed the negotiations with the team.

I want to continue playing football,“- said the 33-year-old. “We are currently in talks. And I definitely want to continue playing football. I am always happy when I am out there on the pitch or working with my team in training.

Prior to joining Chicago Fire, Bastian Schweinsteiger spent almost his entire career with the German powerhouse Bayern Munich. He played in 342 games (45 goals) and won the German Bundesliga eight times and UEFA Champions League trophy once. He also briefly played for Manchester United before heading to MLS. Schweinsteiger also saw success with the German national team, winning the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
