The Chicago Bears are ready to make some significant changes after a 3-19 blunder to the New England Patriots that extended their losing streak to three games. However, benching struggling rookie quarterback Caleb Williams won’t be one of them.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, Bears’ head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that Williams will remain the team’s starting QB.
“Caleb is our starter,” Eberflus said when asked whether he is considering a change at QB.
Eberflus added that “there will be changes, adjustments, being made” but stopped short on providing details about the incoming moves.
“Everything’s on the table. And it’s important that we look at everything and we take the time to get that done, “he explained.
One of the moves Eberflus previously hinted at is stripping offensive coordinator Shane Waldron from play-calling duties. Waldron has been often criticized for his work, with many believing he is failing to get the best out of Williams.
Viewed as a franchise savior since being taken first overall in this year’s draft, Williams largely failed to live up to the hype. That was on full display against the Patriots when he completed just 53.3% of his passes for 120 yards. Overall, the former USC product has 1,785 passing yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions so far in the season.
Meanwhile, the Bears have been largely inefficient on offense aside from a winning stretch between Week 4 and Week 6. They managed to score just 27 points in their last three games while being one of the league’s worst teams in 2024 in almost all major offensive categories.
